Why Take This Workshop?

Have you ever skipped a yoga class because you felt too tired or pushed through a power yoga class and came home exhausted?

Do you sometimes find settling into a restorative yoga class hard because your body can’t handle being still? Other times, it is all you can do to get up again after savasana.

Here at Sunflower Yoga & Wellness, we are ready to introduce you to the superpowers of Menstrual Cycle Awareness and show you how to use this knowledge about yourself to adapt your yoga practice to suit your physical and emotional state.

Women are cyclical. We are not meant to run at the same speed all month long. Our energy has natural ebbs and flows, as do our hormones through the menstrual cycle.

Unfortunately, modern society’s linear path no longer respects this precious cycle. We are conditioned to keep going when we are tired, to keep appointments and social activities even when we’d rather stay home and read a book. We think we are wasting time if we are not doing something all the time.

Have you ever attended a class while on your period and put your body into positions it wasn’t comfortable doing, but you felt too embarrassed to change to a gentler option?

When you practice Menstrual Cycle Awareness, you can use this knowledge as your guide to finding the practice that will benefit your body the most at that time or adapting your own level of practice in any class you attend to allow you to support your body and your needs.

My Journey

I have undertaken over 130 hours of specialist training in Yoga for Women’s Hormonal Health, in addition to my initial 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training with Himalaya Yoga Valley Centre back in 2021.

I have also taken short courses studying Chair Yoga, Yoga Nidra, and Somatics.

It wasn’t until starting my training in 2022 that I first heard the term Menstrual Cycle Awareness. Since then, I have been on a deep journey of discovery to find out as much as I can about the Menstrual Cycle and how it affects both body and mind over the cycle, over the years, and into menopause.

I have studied with both Red School, Kitty McGuire, and the Vital Sign Nutritionist to deepen my knowledge further, do my own inner work, and raise my voice so that I can start to bring this work to those women who need it the most.
