Without even thinking about it we adapt our yoga practice for pregnancy, after injury, for our kids and teens, yet when many women reach their 40’s they think they need to keep pushing through the same yoga practice they have always done, even if it is no longer serving them or they may decide to quit yoga altogether.
This needs to change and I am here to show you how to bring the joy of yoga back to your life in mid-life and beyond, to find a new way to practice that works with your changing body and helps you thrive as you head towards your Second Spring. Menopause is not an ending, it is a new beginning.
Origin and meaning of “Second Spring”
The term “Second Spring” comes from Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and is a poetic, empowering way of referring to the phase of menopause in a woman’s life.
In TCM, a woman’s life is traditionally viewed in cycles of seven years. Around the seventh cycle (age 49), she enters menopause, marking the end of her reproductive years.
Spring represents renewal, growth, and new beginnings, so the “Second Spring” symbolizes a time when you can rediscover yourself, focus on your inner wisdom, and reclaim energy for your personal growth, creativity, and freedom.
It reframes menopause not as an ending, but as a rebirth—a time of spiritual flowering and deepening self-awareness.
Wouldn’t you much rather have a new beginning at this stage of life, rather than seeing it as an ending, which we have unfairly been made to believe by many here in the West?

I did the class twice, once on my mat and the second time in bed (I sat on the side of the bed for the sitting, and got out & stood on my sheepskin for the standing poses) that felt really good, like it was something I could do that’s great for my body before I ever get out of bed. Very accessible. Recent Client Feedback

What is Menopause Yoga?
Flow into Second Spring Menopause Yoga is based on hatha yoga, but it also includes elements of vinyasa flow movement, restorative yoga, yoga nidra, and yin yoga.
It is here to support your during your early Perimenopause, Perimenopause, and post-menopause years.
Menopause Yoga is all about choices and honouring where your body is at, it’s about finding your level of practice, finding the position that is going to bring your body comfort and ease, exploring ways to move that feel pleasurable for your body, and we’ll also have a bit fun as well. It can all feel a bit heavy sometimes, and laughter can be a real ally in helping to lift our mood.
I like to add fun brain games and a bit of extra challenge to some of our moves. During menopause, our body needs a variety of movements, our minds need fresh challenges, and our bones need surprises, so expect a bit of this in each class.
Much of what you learn and practice in each class can then be taken off the mat and used in your everyday life. For example, I will teach breathing practices to help you manage the sensation of hot flushes, soothe irritability, and reduce stress and fatigue. All of these practices can be taken away and used when you need them.
Journaling is an important aspect of each class. It can be a real ally during Perimenopause and Menopause. It can help you process how you feel about your own experience of Menopause and simply a way to record your symptoms, the good and the bad, and the things that are helping you along the way.
If you haven’t done journaling before I really would encourage you to try it out even if it’s only for a few minutes during or after each class. You might just be surprised at what comes up for you during this time.

Yoga is not magic; it cannot make your symptoms vanish, but it can become an important pillar of support alongside:
*Eating nutritious food;
*Prioritising sleep;
*Reducing stress levels and
*Building regular movement into your day.
A number of studies have been conducted regarding the effectiveness of yoga in managing Menopause symptoms. To summarise, the results of many of these studies have been encouraging and show that for some people, practicing yoga on a regular basis can help to reduce menopausal symptoms.
For example, in a recent study reported by the International Menopause Society, the author concluded that 60 minutes of yoga two days a week for 10 weeks may help to reduce the psychological, somatic, and urogenital symptoms experienced in menopause.
There have also been many more studies into the effectiveness of yoga to reduce stress and keeping your stress levels in check is crucial during each stage of menopause, as stress can exacerbate all of your symptoms.
Whole Body Support for Perimenopause
Oestrogen and progesterone are not just important for your reproductive health. They have many important roles to play across the whole of your body, so the natural decline in these hormones during the course of your Menopause will affect your overall health to varying degrees.
Practicing Menopause Yoga alongside a healthy lifestyle can help support your:
*Cardiovascular health
*Bone and muscle health
*Mental/emotional health
*Brain Health
*Pelvic floor/Genio-urinary health
*Joint health
During these Menopause Yoga Classes we will include a variety of practices to support each of these areas of your body. Alongside helping you to understand what is happening to your body, why it is happening and what you can do to support your own unique journey.
It is important to note that No One Yoga Pose or Routine is going to improve any of these areas on its own. We need variety, challenge, surprises and lots and lots of rest.
Perimenopause Symptom Relief
There are many different symptoms that have come to be associated with Perimenopause in particular. Everybody is different, we will all experience our symptoms differently, but you can use your yoga practice to help bring better understanding and acceptance of them and find practices that you can use both in your yoga practice and to take into your daily lives as well.
During these classes I will sprinkle in practices for many of the different symptoms including:
*Hot flushes,
*Brain Fog
*Insomnia
*Anxiety
*Fatigue
*Headaches
*Low Mood
*Digestive Issues
We are all on our own unique journeys but this doesn’t mean that we have to do it alone. There is great power in joining together with others for support, encouragement, compassion, laughs and connection with others on a similar path.

I cannot guarantee results as everybody is different, but several studies have been conducted regarding the effectiveness of yoga in managing Menopause symptoms.
To summarise, the results of many of these studies have been encouraging so far and show that for some people, practicing yoga regularly can help to reduce menopausal symptoms. (I have included links to several studies at the foot of this article).

My Perimenopause Story
These classes have been bubbling away in the background since I completed my first Menopause Yoga Training with the wonderful Niamh Daly from Yinstinct Yoga in 2023. Then, I topped up this training even more by taking Petra Coveney’s Menopause Yoga course in 2024. I believe I am only one of around five teachers who have taken these two in-depth pieces of training.
I’m very much looking forward to weaving this learning together with my personal experiences of this life stage and teaching others who are navigating this path as well.
I am 45 years old, and I am in perimenopause. I have been noticing changes in my menstrual cycle and my body over the last couple of years or so now and probably longer.
Yoga has been a huge support for my own symptoms and hopefully, it can help to bring some comfort and ease to your symptoms as well and provide you with some extra tools to help you process the natural changes that come with menopause more positively.
